Phase 3 Building Repairs

In 2013 we completed the third and final phase of high-level repairs needed to make the Memorial Church building watertight. We are grateful for a generous "Repair Grant for Listed Places of Worship" (HLF/English Heritage) towards the work, and grants from the National Churches Trust, Garfield Weston Foundation, Allchurches Trust, Alan Evans Memorial Trust and the Friends of Essex Churches Trust as well as donations from many individuals. Thanks to the National Churches Trust we were able to restore all the leaded windows. And at the same time, a grant from the Veolia Environmental Trust paid for the replacement of leaking skylights, windows and french doors in the Welcome Centre, the extension at the back of the building. Completion of the work was marked on Sunday 15 December with a hymn and a prayer outside the building, and cake in the Welcome Centre afterwards.
